In 2005, God began moving my heart to initiate a website-based prayer ministry. For the next 18 months, my job commute provided ample time for me to chew over the prospect of creating such a site, determining its contents, and how to administratively support such a venture. One key hurdle was the right name for the site. With no particular sense of urgency, these thoughts stayed in the back of my mind and initially lost my attention.
In 2007, everything changed.
On February 14, 2007 (Valentine’s Day), my wife, Cathy, called me at work with the diagnosis that a recent tumor biopsy revealed a malignancy. As more tests were performed, the news was progressively more grim – “Stage IV colorectal cancer”, “metastasized to the liver with 70% of the liver destroyed”, “not a transplant candidate”, “possibly inoperable”, “unenviable position to be in”. One day during this period, we stood in our kitchen, my arms wrapped around her as we both quietly wept, and I heard very clearly a voice in my head that stated very simply, “And it will be named prayerwarriors.org.”
My initial thought was “I could not have heard that!”, and my second thought was, “There is absolutely no way that a name that great and perfect has not already been chosen. It just cannot be available.” Cathy and I held each other for a few more minutes until she went to bed to rest. Immediately I raced to the computer and checked on the domain name. It was available for sale, so we purchased it, then set the project aside with the expectation that the Lord would guide us after he had performed whatever miracles needed to completely heal my wife.
Many people from around the globe prayed -- at churches, at homes, at work. Cathy’s name and plight spread far and wide, and thousands prayed for her miraculous healing. God is Faithful and He healed her according to His Word, working through incredible medical staff at both MD Anderson and the Memorial Hermann system to achieve His Will. As we neared Cathy’s first one-year-post-operative-liver anniversary, Ben, the particular friend of our niece, Samantha, visited our home and revealed his talent in website design and administration. Ben’s creativity, skill, and love of the Lord are evidenced in the production of this website.
Now, at the end of 2009, we welcome each and everyone to this ministry in the Name of the Most High, asking you to bless others in prayer and be blessed through faithful prayer. Pray without ceasing, for Faithful is His Name.
